Some of the factors motivating Verizon to become an open-access [low cost] carrier include:
- Off-load customer support to the handset producers
- Eliminate costly device subsidies
- Augment their perceived product line up with a whole new host of open-access devices. Order of magnitude difference (Verizon currently supports approximately 100 devices).
